How to find out if the other teams are as strong as each of them claims to be?
The best way to do it is to experience it personally. So, in 1981, the team decided to create a float composed entirely of chess pieces for fun and to test the strength of the opponents. The float was not supposed to be like the others but, like everything made by the Chess, it had to be different, unique, something that would leave a memory for our team and the other teams in the years to come, and above all, enter the “ALBO D’ORO” (Hall of Fame) of the carnival.
Thus was born “LA COMPAGNIA DELLA FORCA” (The Company of the Fork), a float conceived and made entirely by the team with the creativity that always distinguishes us. Yes, it was really different from the others, in practice it resembled a castle with 4 elevated towers with shooting positions, colors: white, black, and orange. The structure has never been modified in the following years.
Even the protective masks were handmade by us, so somewhat fragile, to the point that someone had gotten into the habit of removing the mask and shooting without it… with the consequences that one can imagine…
Guiding the pair was Mr. MUNARI, who had won the “BILANCIN D’ORO” (Golden Balance) for his driving skills. That year, the float placed fourth in the rankings. In 1982, Mr. MUNARI, still leading LA COMPAGNIA DELLA FORCA, won the “BILANCIN D’ORO” again. Meanwhile, the fame of our float grew, so in every square, the walking teams reserved a special treatment for us. We were greatly hated but treated with great respect for our courage and consistency in shooting. Famous for our 5 rides on the Dondolino or the indefinite stop in Piazza Ferrando by the Panthers who said, “You can leave when we say so!” But situations like these were what made the walking teams award us with a trophy that will remain in the history of the team, the float, and the Carnival of Ivrea: The “TROFEO ENDAS” (ENDAS Trophy) for the most combative team.
